Rappahannock Hunt
John Adolphus Bernard Dahlgren of Windsor Lodge Farm, Huntly, died April 9 of an apparent heart attack. He was 56.
The son of the late Captain and Mrs. Joseph Ulrich Dahlgren of Philadelphia, Mr. Dahlgren attended Lawrence ville School and was graduated from Staunton Military Academy and the University of Virginia.
He came to Rappahannock in his early 20s and lived with his grandmother Elizabeth Biddle Gordon at Old Windsor Farm.
Mr. Dahlgren’s interests centered on thoroughbred horses and hunting. With his daughter Eva he owned and operated a successful thoroughbred farm. He had been master of fox hounds of the Rappahannock Hunt since 1979 and was a member of the board of the Old Dominion Hounds.
He was also a member of the Society of the Cincinnati and the Fauquier Club.
During the Korean War he held the rank of second lieutenant in the Army and was chief transportation officer.
Mr. Dahlgren was a broker with Roy Wheeler Realty Inc.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Morgenstieme Dahlgren, his daughter Eva Elizabeth Dahlgren, a son John Wilhelm Morgenstieme Coleman of Alexandria, two brothers, Joseph Dahlgren, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Ulrich Dahlgren, Annapolis, Md., and his uncle Douglas Huntly Gordon of Baltimore.
A funeral service will be conducted on the hill at Windsor Lodge at noon April 12.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Rappahannock Hunt or to the donor’s favorite charity.
