Route 28, a heavily traveled two-lane road that serves the county’s major industrially zoned corridor.
“You don’t build roads without engineering studies,” said Del. Robert T. Andrews (R-Loudoun/Fairfax), who said shortages in money for needed road projects are frustrating, but that “blowing off steam doesn’t help very much.”
“This is a huge project,” Andrews said of efforts to four-lane Route 28 from Route 7 to Route 50, with interchanges. “You don’t just draw circles and build tomorrow.”
Jack Hodge, assistant chief engineer for the highway department, said Route 28 needs to be widened, but that before it can be done “you have to have apian.”
“If we had the money to widen Route 28 today, I would have to go through these steps,” Hodge said. “We’re trying to get ahead of the game.”
