Tingles Image began to close the gap and jumped with the leader over the final fence. Ragtime Knight proved the stronger in the stretch, however, pulling away from his challenger in the final uphill drive to win by an easy IV2 lengths. John Dale Thomas was third on his Land Leviathan.
The first and the last races of the day were on the turf.
Junior riders went to the wire for the first race which was split into pony and horse divisions. Christopher Williams of Middleburg won the first race on his Strawberry Fizz, heading Todd Duncan’s Tuppins, ridden by Reed Duncan, and Christy Laufs Promise, ridden by Patrick Worrall.
Jeanne Fendley led for the first three furlongs of the second division but cut in too tightly coming around the final beacon and lost her seat, leaving the lead open for Shannon Wagner on the somewhat appropriately-named Taken Down.
The day’s final race, at IV2 miles, was won by Thomas J. Carroll’s Hostel, ridden by Jeff Curtis, who came from behind in the final strides of the stretch drive to edge out John D. Archbold’s Ebetimu, William M. Haun in the irons, by a short nose.
