Warrenton Hunt huntsman Michael Power led the race from start to finish on Fleet Buster, followed two to three lengths back by Jeff Curtis on Crab Feast. With three fences to go in the 2-mile race, Crab Feast bobbled and almost went down on his knees after a fence, losing his rider and leaving Mr. Power alone at the front.
Though it was an easy victory Mr. Power was very pleased with his horse’s performance throughout the race.
“He ran really well,” he said. “That’s the first time he’s felt right since Casanova (where he won). He jumped really well, I’m really pleased with him.”
Mr. Power, who hails from Waterford, Ireland, has had Fleet Buster for three years. Besides carrying his owner in hurdle races, the 11-year-old Fleetlate-Sky Dame gelding also has to work in the hunt field where he was put to work only three days before the race working the hounds.
