Olympic Run was still well ahead over the final fence and, though Splashy Lea closed with her characteristic stretch run, could not b® bested, passing under the wire eight lengths in front in a time of 5:24 minutes.
“Coming down the hill the second time around I saw Splashy Lea behind me and I knew I’d better go,” said Ms. Dahlgren afterwards. “You can’t let Splashy Lea catch up with you.”
The race was Olympic Run’s second start of the season, her first was at Blue Ridge just over a month ago. The Hill Run-She’s Marvelous mare was bought from the race track and made her first start over fences last year under the watchful eye of trainer John Coles.
