Rappahannock Newt Staff Writer

Oh Reynolds is good all right I can’t dispute that. After all, the man runs six to twelve miles a day I should hope he’s good.

And all those miles he runs aren’t necessarily preparatory for anything, that’s just what he does - sort of for leisure. Understand, he enjoys it.

Sure, he’s also preparing for something, be certain of that. He can tell you the starting time of the Fodderstack race four months before it’s run— when most people are still hazy about whether Flint Hill is connected to Washington by a backroad.

Reynolds would be offended. I can almost hear him gasp ‘The Fodderstack, a backroad? To him its a silver highway, a path of joy, his primary source of fulfillment. He laid the road.

Reynolds can identify every pebble on the Fodderstack, having numbered and colored them for strategic purposes. Is he determined? I would say so.

He’s only won the Eva L. Smith award-given to the first place finishers from Rappahannock - four times. Four times! Nobody else even knows what the award looks like. Is it a cup, a medal, does a person wear it, does it stand up? I don’t know. Ask Reynolds. He’s probably storing them in rows beneath his bed.
