The Appalachian jazz string band known as Trapezoid will perform Saturday, April 20 at 8 p.m. in Washington, Virginia’s Gay St. Theater. The band, originally of West Virginia, has recently moved their base of operation to Rappahannock County.
This will be Trapezoid’s first concert in the county. Playing violin, bass, mandolin, guitar, cello, hammer dulcimer wile using unusual vocal harmonies, the quartet makes sounds quite unlike any other music around, combining the traditional and the original.
The concert is sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC), a nonprofit, volunteer organization. Admission is $6 with a $1 discount to RAAC members. Tickets are available at Brambles Cafe in Washington starting April 8 or reservations may be made by calling the RAAC office at 675-3193.
A former teacher at Spectra School of Design in Flint Hill, Victor Pickett, is among the eight Virginia artists selected to create awards for the Governor’s Awards for the Arts recipients in May. Pickett is chairman of the Art Department at Old Dominion University in Norfolk and is an architectural sculptor.
