Be there Dad!

His dad was a good dad A professional man, a busy man, schedule always stuffed full, but he loved his son and his son loved him.

Vet something was missing, the son, now grown and a businessman in his own right, told me. With tears in his eyes he said, "You know, I played baseball and football almost from the time I could walk. I was the high school quarterback and baseball catcher In college (at a major university) I had a baseball scholarship as catcher."

Then he paused as the tears came freely.

"But my dad never saw me play one game in either sport! I used to search the stands hoping to see him, but I never did Much of the glory I received on the athletic field had an emptiness about it because I could never share it with my dad. a man I love and respect deeply."

By the time the 30 year-old man had finished, I was in tears, but tears that moved me 'o see every game my children played in. I had to shuffle schedules many times, but I m glad I did. My son died at 17. and our two daughters are now gone from home But, I still have great, comforting memories of catching their eyes from the stands as they look up to see where their mom and I were sitting. (I think they played better. I know they FELT better.)

And. I thoroughly enjoyed watching my own flesh and blood learn the early struggles of life that would equip them for the future

Train up a child in the way he should go..." means also being with him at times important to mm.
