Missionary society to sponsor trip

Wayland Blue Ridge Missionary Society will sponsor a trip to the Baptist General Convention which will be held at the Zion Baptist Church in Newport News. The bus will leave from the Safeway parking lot in Culpeper on June 26 at 5 a.m. and will arrive back there at 9 p.m. For reservations contact Rachel Aylor at 987-8739 or Dolores Wilson at 399-1300.

Bake sale planned

Mary Magdalene Chapter 208, OES, of Front Royal will hold a bake sale in front of the A & P on Saturday, June 14, beginning at 10 a.m.

Contestants needed

Young ladies between the ages of 13 and 19 are needed to run for Sperryville honorary fire chief queen. For additional information call Joyce Lillard at 987-8952. The carnival will be held June 17-21.

Queen contestants invited

Any young ladies between the ages of 13-18 who would like to run for the Chester Gap honorary fire chief queen please contact Karen Williams at 635-3673 for additional information. Carnival dates are July 16-19.

Auction items needed

The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department is asking for items that can be sold at an upcoming auction. If you have any items you would like to donate and have picked up contact either B~”ce Williams at 635-4673 or Bradley Williams at 636-2627.

The date for the auction will be decided later.

Woman’s club to meet

The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will meet on Tuesday, June 24, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Judy Brown near Washington. All members are urged to attend.

Choral celebration on Fourth of July

A choral celebration of religious and secular music is being planned prior to the fireworks display at Avon Hall on July 4. All county churches, their choirs and/or singing groups are invited to participate. All interested ministers and choral directors should contact William Carrigan at Avon Hall, P.O. ‘Catch a Tale and Read’

The Rappahannock County Library will be participating in the statewide reading program Catch a Tale and Read this summer. Children aged three and up are invited to attend the library’s series which will take them on a journey into the world of imagination, foreign lands, and outer space. The theme was selected by Virginia Youth Services librarians in recognition of the exciting appearance of Halley’s Comet and the Chinese Year of the Tiger in 1986.

Registration is now open for the program,according to librarians Grace Sims and Cindy Dodson. The adventure begins on June 16 with activities including reading books, solving puzzles, drawing and coloring pictures, and a party in mid-August. Come by the Library or telephone 675-3780 to register for the fun.
