WSA unanimously agreed to give Authority officers the power to take necessary action to get full insurance coverage as soon as possible.
That enables the officers to join VML’s insurance pool program when it’s available.
In other action, the WSA:
• Hired Timothy Falls as apprentice operator of the sewage treatment plant, effective June 16.
• Approved an accounting system developed by Dennis Baily, who estimated the “pathetically simple” system would require only four days of bookkeeping work for each quarterly billing.
• Agreed to charge inte1 st on unpaid bills.
During last week’s public hearing on user fees, business owners complained about what they considered excessively high charges. Maurice O’Bannon estimated then that Country Manor, Parkway and the Emporium would be paying 15 percent of total operational costs, based on the number of EDUs (equivalent dwelling units) each was assigned.
WSA decided last Thursday to set the per EDU monthly charge at $12.85. But the Authority agreed to change its EDU assignment formula. Initially, each business with more than three employees was to be given one EDU per each 20 feet of road frontage; the increment was dropped to one EDU per each 30 feet. That will reduce the EDUs assigned to Parkway from eight to six, the Country Manor from 12 to 10 and the Emporium from 12 to nine.
