Defense drill
set Sunday
Members of the Warrenton and Winchester units of the Virginia Defense Force — including participants from Rappahannock County — will meet Sunday in Winchester for their first regular drill, according to Lt. Hoi. Boyd G. Headley, 3rd Battalion commander.
The drill will be conducted at the Winchester War Memorial Building, in the City Park, rather than at the National Guard Armory as earlier announced.
Drill activities will start promptly at 1 p.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. Current members of the Virginia Defense Force are expected to attend, and those interested in joining may also come by during the drill.
Gen. Herbert L. Turner, 3rd Brigade commander, said plans are being made to start new Virginia Defense Force companies in Leesburg, Lexington and Alexandria. In addition, 17-year-olds may now join the VDF with parental consent.
