• Turning cabbage a quarter to a half turn if they start to crack will reduce water uptake. Or use a shovel to cut through the roots on one side of the plant. If that doesn’t work, better harvest them.
• Plant Chinese cabbage in July 90 days before the average date of the first fall frost in your locality. This will allow crisp, firm heads to form in the cool days of early autumn.
• Japanese beetle traps should be placed at some distance from the plants they are meant to protect. If placed nearby, beetles lured by the trap will feed heavily on plants attractive to them in the vicinity of the trap.
• Hot, dry weather brings out the red spiders. Inspect roses, evergreens, and marigolds especially for signs of pale green coloration. Hold a sheet of white paper underneath some foliage and briskly tap it. Tinv
