Supervisor Richard Latham also questioned the 40 percent surplus assessment which was tacked on to each premium in order to get the pool started. “Is that a one-time assessment?”
“There is no commitment about that,” Ms. Bruce replied. “I imagine that if the pool were ever in need of funds the deficit will be made up from (assessing) the participating members.”
Supervisor Estes also questioned the implications of the pool being used up. “According to the policy, if the pool is ‘in a deficit condition and that condition is not corrected,’ then each municipality becomes responsible for its own claims.”
Administrator John McCarthy concurred. “If the pool is dry and we get a suit — we are liable alone for the claim.”
