Pema said that 103 wines from 19 wineries were entered in the competition. The breakdown in medals awarded is 5 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze.
Ingleside Plantation Vineyards is owned and operated by the Flemer family at Oak Grove in Virginia’s Northern Neck. The Flemers operate one of the largest nurseries on the East Coast and began operation of their winery’ in 1980.
Other gold medalists are Meredyth Vineyards —1983 Marechal Foch; Montdomaine Cellars — 1984 Merlot and 1984 White Riesling Semi-Dry, and Oasis Vineyard — 1984 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Virginia Wineries Festival will be held from noon to 6 p.m. each day. Nearly 12,000 people attended last year’s festival.
