The resolution requesting membership in the Virginia Municipal Liability Pool was passed unanimously. Also approved was a resolution appointing the chairman of the^ Board of Supervisors as the county’s representative on the pool’s board of directors.
According to Ms. Bruce, the amount of the premiums exceeded the budgeted amount “by between six and seven thousand dollars.”
The county’s contribution to the liability pool will amount to $21,543. That covers the general liability insurance plus automobile insurance. It also includes the 40 percent surplus tacked on to each premium as a starter for the fund.
In addition, workmen’s compensation insurance will amount to $7,224, which is paid quarterly. Ms. Bruce explained that insurance is already administered through a pool so the figure does not represent any significant change.
Public officials’ liability insurance, through Markel Services Inc., will cost the county $3,975, plus a 2.75 percent “surplus lines tax.” That premium specifically excludes the Department of Social Services.
