Match herbicides with the weeds you are trying to control. 2,4-D alone will adequately control such weeds as dandelion and plantains, with less risk to ornamentals than combination products.
Many broadleaf weeds can be controlled by applications made prior to bud-break of trees in the spring or after leaf fall. Such treatments reduce the risk to trees and shrubs.
Injury symptoms resulting from drift of growth regulation herbicides include downward bending of stem (epinasty), thickened, narrow, deformed leaves (especially newly emerging ones) and upward curling of leaf edges. Leaves may be stiff and dark green, with the veins very prominent. Symptoms may not be apparent until one or two weeks after exposure.
