Many events and activities have occurred since my last letter in March. I spoke of a “work of contract” dispute that British teachers were involved in concerning a pay increase. That has since been settled and things are beginning to get back to normal.
One of the activities that teachers were not doing is school trips. Since the settlement school trips are again being organized.
Each year there are two or three trips to Europe. It is very fortunate to have the continent so close, only a two-hour ferry crossing to France or Belgium. The kids are able to take a trip for a week mid experience another country as well as another language.
It is not a week “free of charge.” It costs each student between $150 and $200, depending on the trip. Many of the kids save for several years to go on a school trip.
There are two types of trips. One type is taken during a school vacation and treated yery leisurely. The other type of trip is taken during school time with educational day visits and even some homework in the evenings.
