Tomorrow, Americans will have double cause to celebrate. The 210th anniversary of our independence and the centennial of the Statue of Liberty will be reason for festivities around the country.
“Liberty Weekend” in New York City promises to drag the phrase “media hype” to new depths. The weekend-long extravaganza, produced and directed by the same people who bring you Super Bowl half-time shows, should be an event which any patriotic, red-blooded American should not fail to miss.
Rappahannock County is fortunate to have an Independence Day celebration which emphasizes the traditional over the modern in its style.
After all, do we celebrate Independence Day to recognize the freedoms which we, nearly alone in all the world, enjoy?
Or has the holiday become just another reason for a day off and to say “ ... for all you do — this Bud’s for you?”
Being old-fashioned does have its attractions.
