Mel Davis, manager of Brambles Cafe, said: “Last night (Thursday) my refrigerators were so full you couldn’t stick your finger into them. I’ve got to go to the store tonight to get some food so that I can open tomorrow morning.”
Chief Roach said that despite the long waits at the food stands the crowd was very understanding. “We were understaffed. A group of firefighters and paramedics from Prince William County, who had just come up to enjoy the day, saw that we needed help and they just jumped in. They took over the bratwurst and beer garden. It was great!”
Following a hot afternoon on the sunny streets of Washington, many of the visitors spent the evening on the cool tree-shaded lawn of Avon Hall, where they strolled about a display of antique cars, or petted several llamas from Sarland llama farm in Albemarle County.
