I his commemoration provides an ideal opportunity for remembering the sacrifices made by the men of the North and South who fought and died here during the first major battle of the Civil War,” said Betty Fisher, chairman of the First Manassas Commemoration Committee. “We hope these ceremonies will not only increase public understanding of one of the most dramatic events in American history, but will also emphasize the need to protect the nation’s Civil War heritage for the benefit of future generations.”
The Commemoration Committee includes representatives from the National Park Service, City of Manassas, Friends of Virginia Civil War Parks, Prince William County, and other civic organizations. Committee members are currently raising funds for the event through the sale of commemorative tee-shirts. Any profits derived from the sale of commemorative items will be donated to Manassas National Battlefield Park.
