Equal access

The problem of access for handicapped citizens to public meetings held in the courthouse was graphically illustrated on Monday, when the members of the Board of Supervisors were asked to, quite literally, assist two members of the community to gain access to the hearing to express their concern.

The state and federal governments have enacted legislation making it illegal to discriminate against the handicapped. Those regulations cover the legal aspect of the issue.
