High school math teacher Helen LaCava taught the two-week computer class, and directed the manipulation of computer programs and functions. Mrs. LaCava observed that the students seemed to know the basics of the operation of a computer but few had the knowledge of why certain symbols or keys were used. “We hope that now they understand WHY they do what they do,” commented Mrs. LaCava.
The students had an opportunity to practice what they were taught. They increased their math and typing skills by utilizing prepared programs. Their creativity could also be strengthened by using “Logo” to draw designs, using the “Factory” program to create a figure of their own, using the “Bankstreet Writer” to type and print letters or prose or using “Juggles Rainbow” to make colorful formations.
