While the upstairs courtroom was being renovated recently, the board and other governing bodies “went across the street to the Gay Street Theater, and that is accessible (to handicapped people). That didn’t cost you much,” Joyce Abell reminded her representative on the board. “There are other ways of talking with us than accusing us of being malicious or saying that this community is not responsible for providing for its handicapped people but the federal and state governments are, or saying that you’ve done all you should by offering help in getting up the stairs.”
