Extension on
wheat ballots
Since wheat poll ballots were mailed to wheat producers on June 25, one week later than announced earlier, the date for returning ballots in person or by which mailed ballots must be postmarked has been extended from July 7 to July 14. This announcement was made by the executive director of the Warren and Rappahannock County offices of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS).
Ballots must be returned by wheat producers to their local county ASCS offices to be checked against an eligibility list. The ballots will be canvassed at a public meeting in each county ASCS office on July 18. All valid ballots will be placed in an envelope, sealed and mailed to the ASCS Kansas City management office for tabulation. The tabulations of the poll results, with demographic summarization, will be announced after August 1.
In the wheat poll, producers are being asked if they favor imposition of mandatory limits on production of wheat which will result in wheat prices that are not lower than 125 percent of the cost of production. An ASCS official explained that it is not a referendum, but a way for wheat producers to express their desires about a farm program.
