they are professionals through and through. They do it for one reason — because they love it. They are the stars of the show.”
Mr. Carrigan added that “I’m only the coordinator. It takes teamwork — marvelous teamwork in the entire show. I could make lots of mistakes and those performers, those professionals, would go right along.
“And the crowd . . . without them I wouldn’t do these things. They are a necessary part of the show. Through their appreciation they make it all worthwhile.
“In 25 years of Independence Day celebrations the people of Rappahannock have illustrated the true feelings of Americans toward their country, its meaning and our relationship to it. We are only custodians of this beautiful country for a short time — it is well that we take good care of it and pass it on a little better for the next generation.”
