Miss Wingfield

Denise L. Wingfield of Sperryville has been chosen by James Madison University as the biologist commissioned to design the tour of the nature trail at the University’s arboretum. Miss Wingfield will also be writing the trail guide to be used by visitors to the center. She is working under the direction of Dr. Norlyn L. Bodkin, professor of biology at JMU.
The arboretum is 30 acres of forest located across Interstate 81 from the main campus. The flora there represents the flora of the Ridge and Valley Province of the Eastern Deciduous Forest. It also offers a wide variety of wildflowers and demonstrates an array of different plant habitats.
Miss Wingfield, a 1984 graduate of JMU, currently teaches biology at Fauquier High School where she is also girls’ varsity tennis coach. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis B. Wingfield of Sperry ville and is a 1980 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.
