To the editor: Members of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Squad, Auxiliary and Junior Firemen are to be commended for the outstanding job done in preparing for and handling a record crowd in Washington on July 4th. Let’s not forget the necessary cleanup that followed that night and on Saturday. Fire Chief Roger Roach, chairman of the event must not be overlooked for his masterful handling of a difficult task that resulted in a most successful affair. Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan, gracious as every during the past 25 years, hosted a spectacular fireworks display. The Arabian horse show, childrens games, the choral presentation and other events were thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Carrigan. For their vigilance in maintaining what appeared to be a most orderly crowd, the Sheriffs Department is hereby complimented.

During and following the events on July 4th in Washington many good compliments were overheard. Of course, there were also a few uncalled for critical remarks and some constructive criticism. The Rappahannock Lions Club members recognize the' difficulties involved and we praise all who worked so hard to make the affair safe, profitable and enjoyable. Certainly, the weather as well was on our side. GUY FOSTER President Rapphannock Lions Club
