Hampton District has five candidates seeking the county School Board seat vacated by Randall Updike, who announced last week that he will not accept reappointment when his four-year term expires at the end of this month.
At Monday’s public hearing, former teacher Diane Wood, orchardist Alex Sharp, contractor Peter Kreyling, former teacher and school administrator Camille Harris and homemaker Sarah Brown all asked to be appointed. But from Wakefield District, the sole nomination came from Supervisor Hubert Gilkey, who proposed that 16-year veteran Paul Nichols be named again to represent that district.
Mrs. Wood and Mr. Kreyling both had resumes turned in to the supervisors by Mr. Sharp.
Mrs. Wood, a graduate of William and Mary, taught third grade at Rappahannock County Elementary School for four years. An active member of the Rappahannock County Education Association, she was president of the teachers’ organization in 1981-82.
