Activities throughout the county
Although the day’s activities will focus on Washington, the county seat, there are special events planned in other parts of Rappahannock as well. In Sperryville, “all the shops will be open,” and decked out for the holiday, said Cheri Woodard, president of the Sperryville Business Council.
At Country Manor, local basket weaver Warren Henry will be demonstrating his craft, and there will be live country music both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Country Manor is also planning a gigantic overstock tent sale, to be held in the store’s parking lot. And the Hazel Mountain Pub, formerly Celia Deli, will be open for anything from a sub to a cold meat or cheese tray for visitors who might be headed out toward the Skyline Drive.
In Amissville, the Amissville Ruritans are holding their 26th annual beef barbecue dinner, featuring their famous pit-cooked sirloin beef, slathered with the club’s secret barbecue sauce. The dinner, which will be held at the Amissville fire hall, begins at 4 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3.50 for children.
And, at numerous locations throughout the county, Rappahannock’s general stores will be open for sandwiches, cold drinks, charcoal and gasoline, or any other last-minute necessities.
