It is now common knowledge that exercise is important to one’s health. The physical fitness awareness of the 1980’s is evident in the number of health dubs, fitness programs on television, articles in magazines, its influence in fashion, the community classes available, the joggers in the streets...
But, knowing that exercise can help prevent heart attacks is not enough. We need to get out there and participate. Recent research from the University of Michigan revealed that 9 out of 10 Americans between ages 25 and 64 do not do ANY exercise to challenge their cardiovascular systems!
The American Heart Association suggests that an aerobic activity - one that increases pulse rate and breathing rate - be done three times a week for 15-60 minutes without a break. Such activities include walking, jogging, biking, rowing, dancing, exercise classes or racquet sports. The key to a healthy heart is faithfully participating in a regular routine of exercise that includes slow warm-up and cool-down periods.
