Oakley Baptist Church was built in 1881 on Rt. 614 in Gid Brown Hollow near the Dunkard Church. Before the church was built, the Dunkards and the Baptists shared the same building, with each holding services on alternating Sundays.
The Dunkards decided that offerings would not be taken in that church by either them or the Baptists. If the Baptists wanted to accept offerings, they were told, they would have to do so in their own church.
Ed Keyser, a member of the Baptist congregation, offered land to build a church. The land was never deeded, but apparently land was donated by a Mr. Love, according to the records which remain to document Oakley's early history.
