Anna Hudson, a tenth grade student at Rappahannock County High School, has been selected by the Rappahannock County Schools Gifted and Talented Program to attend a summer pre-architecture class at Hampton University. She will stay on the college campus at Hampton during the four-week class.
Twenty-five high school students from throughout the Commonwealth were chosen from teacher recommendations to attend the class. The students will attend seminars on architectural design during the morning class period. Afternoons will be spent in the studio designing, drawing and executing model buildings.
The class is designed as an introductory course for junior and senior high school students. The product of their intensive study period will be critiqued by John Peters, chairman of the Architectural Design Department at Hampton University. He minces no words with incoming students, telling them, “This is no vacation, but plenty of hard work.”
Miss Hudson was awarded the opportunity to participate in the seminar based upon her performance in the Technical Drawing course at RCHS. She was also the recipient of the Outstanding Performance in Technical Drawing award, given annually to the school’s top draftsman by drafting instructor Scott Currie.
