A combination of high temperatures and gentle breezes has aggravated the already serious drought which has hit Rappahannock and surrounding counties during the past two months.
According to Dennis Wingfield, whose weather observations are familiar to county residents through his reports to Channel 4 in Washington, D. C., the lack of rainfall would be bad enough without the temperatures and winds. He explained that it is normal at this time of year for evaporation from ground to sky to exceed the rainfall amounts, which creates a moisture deficit.
