I too have groundhogs. I’ve been plagued by these fossorial food processors for 10 years now. I’ve wondered at times if I must live with them for the rest of my life.

Groundhogs (or wood chucks) are the world’s largest squirrel. Zoologists lodge Marmota monax right in between the tree squirrel such as our gray bushy tail and the prairie dog. A groundhog is a phenomenal digger, spends most of its time foraging close to its underground labyrinth but is perfectly capable of climbing trees for food or to escape from enemies. These short-tailed critters may weigh up to 14 pounds. I hope one never falls out of a tree as I walk beneath it.
