Tyrone Starks of Washington placed second in the 4-H/FFA Performance-Carcass Lamb Show. His lamb, which took reserve champion honors, won Tyrone a trophy and a $125 award.
A total of 57 lambs were entered in the state-wide competition. They were judged on the amount of weight which they gained during the contest period (May 23 to August 1), a live judging at the Culpeper Farm Show, and the yield grade, which is determined after the animal is slaughtered.
Tyrone’s lamb had a yield of 56.7 percent dressed, which is above average. Its loin measured 3.3 inches, also above average. The lamb’s average daily weight gain was .672 pound per day.
