It controls every aspect of your behavior, from simple actions such 88 walking, talking, or smiling, to complex functions such as learning, thinking and composing music.
This may seem obvious, but exactly how the brain works is still a mysteiy - the key to which, some scientists and engineers hope, will be the computer chip.
“The brain is immensely complex, and the structure and function of many of its parts are still poorly understood,” said Eric Kandel and James Schwartz, editors of a reference book on the subject. The task of neural scientists is to find out how the brain uses nerve cells called neurons and other cells to control behavior and how the functioning of these cells is affected by the behavior of other people and by environmental factors.
