The Silver-Haired Legislature passed a dozen bills during its threeday session, August 3 to 5, in Richmond, all with the purpose of making life better for senior citizens living throughout the Commonwealth.
M^jor items considered and approved by the legislators included expanding long-term, home-based care for the elderly; providing tax relief for people caring for the elderly in their homes; financial assistance for adult day-care centers; the inclusion of dental care, eyeglasses and hearing aids under the Virginia Medical Assistance Services; encouraging the appointment of senior citizens to state boards and commissions and to jobs in the public and private sectors; increased funding for transportation for the elderly
