Because of Sheriff Woodward’s remarks, the suit alleges, Mrs. Cebula “has not slept through the night since (his) first slanderous remarks” and has been forced to suffer “humiliation . . . shame . . . ridicule... injury to her reputation and financial loss. ” Business at her restaurant fell off, she said, to the point where she was forced to close the restaurant. The suit states that after stories about Sheriff Woodward’s remarks appeared in the Rappahannock News and the Northern Virginia Daily, “receipts fell over 50 percent” from their previous point.
