DRASTIC mapping is not intended as a substitute for on-site studies or computer modeling, but rather as a general planning tool which provides a relative measure of an area’s groundwater pollution potential. Compared to more sophisticated studies, it is inexpensive; further, it can be used by planners after only a few days training.
In other business at the March board meeting, the supervisors:
• Received plaques recognizing those who contributed to the courthouse renovation project. The larger plaque with brass nameplates will hang in the upstairs courtroom; a smaller plaque of solid brass will be affixed to the front of the courthouse.
• Acknowledged the maintenance projects which jail inmates and trustees have completed in the courthouse complex. “Generally, they’re making themselves very helpful and saving the county considerable money,” said Mr. McCarthy, pointing out in particular the repainting and carpentry in the courthouse done by prisoner Harold Brown. “It’s an awful lot of really good work for free.”
