Most of your editorial comments made Thursday, March 10, 1988, under the heading “A National Disgrace” were pretty well off the mark.
America’s voters are not lazy and apathetic, nor are the American people collectively lazy couch-potatoes.
Let’s reverse (not revise) your figures. Let’s state that over threequarters of the voters eligible to participate failed to bother to cast a ballot last Tuesday - even though the weather was fine and they all had been alerted via the Rappahannock Xeirs and other media.
Why did so many choose not to go to the polls? I doubt boredom or TV kept them away.
Consider, please, the fact that maybe over three-quarters of the people don’t feel there is any quality to the slate being presented by either side; that the people don’t feel
