Meanwhile, although the Hampton Inn is closed, Mrs. Cebula continues to provide three meals a day for the inmates at the Rappahannock County Jail. Her contract with the county expires April 1, but automatically continues for another year unless either party gives 30 days notice. No such notice was received by the Board of Supervisors as of March 1.
Mrs. Cebula has also confirmed that the restaurant is for sale, and has been listed with Cosner Realty of Gainesville for $150,000, down $50,000 from her original asking price. She said last week that if the restaurant is sold, she will give the county 30 days notice on the meals contract. Another option, she added, would be for the restaurant’s buyer to assume the contract.
John McCarthy, administrative assistant to the Board of Supervisors, confirmed this week that there is no clause allowing the contract to end if the restaurant is sold. “Unless she finds a subcontractor, she’s liable for the balance of the contract,” which now runs through April 1989.
