Tryouts for 4-H show
The annual 4-H Share-the-Fun Show will be held Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Gay Street Theatre in Washington. Screening for this program will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, at 3:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. Any youth grades K-12 wiU be eligible. Performers will be grouped according to age and type of act. The 4-H Teen Club is sponsoring a raffle to raise funds to rent the theatre for the show. The prize is 10 hours of labor donated by Teen Club’ members. Only 250 tickets will be sold. For information about the raffle or the show call the Extension Office (675-3619).
Poetry series to begin
The Rappahannock County Library’s “Voices and Visions” poetry' series will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and continue every other week through April 11. This exciting five-part series will consider the works and lives of five 20th-century poets: William Carlos Williams, T.S. Eliot, Langston Hughes, Elizabeth Bishop and Sylvia Plath. Each program will include a video show about the poet and an audience discussion led by the poet/George Mason University professor Peter, Klappert. The programs will be held at Rappahannock High School’s, new auditorium at 7 p.m. Copies of the book Modem American Poets,; which contains the poems to be discussed, may be borrowed from the library. PTA 'High Attendance' Night is Feb. 7
The RCES PTA will be observing “High Attendance Night” at its' regular meeting at the elementary school on Tuesday, Feb. 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The classroom with the best parent representation at the meeting will receive special Valentine treats. Also scheduled is a talk by Monica Nixon on teaching children responsibility. Ms. Nixon teaches parent-child communication classes and is a former Montessori teacher. The public is welcome.
