Each gown the company treats is hand-cleaned, then machinecleaned individually to remove chemicals used to treat stains. Each clean garment is then shaped with acid-free tissue or muslin and sealed into an acid-free, airtight box, Saidman says.
Gowns are stuffed with acid-tree tissue or muslin to help retain the garments’ shapes.
A gown is not preserved simply by being cleaned or sealed in a box.
The gown must be thoroughly cleaned before it is sealed; otherwise, stains such as perspiration which may not be readily visible right after the wedding may show up a few years later, Saidman says.
The box must be airtight and acid-free to prevent the dress from yellowing with age.
