Richard Frederick of Winchester was elected to serve as representative of Virginia’s 7th Congressional District in next summer’s National Silver Haired Congress (NSHC), defeating Capt. Howard Holschuh, of Castleton. Over 20,000 registered voters throughout the state, over age 60, cast their ballots for the senior conclave scheduled for Washington, D.C.

Betty Reams, state director for the 1989 NSHC said “participation was much greater than anticipated. Older Virginians have a lot to offer and the opportunity to deal with issues affecting all ages is an exciting concept, especially when a cross section of older Americans is involved.”
