After the shower, don't forget that you have attended a party. Therefore, write a short note of thanks to the hostess. At the very least call the hostess within a day or two and let her know what a nice time you had.

By now the invitation to the wedding has undoubtedly arrived. The response situation regarding an invitation to a wedding is even more serious than the response to a shower.

The notation RSVP in the corner of the invitation should be taken seriously on any invitation, but especially on a wedding invitation.

There are few social occasions that demand as much time, effort and planning as does a wedding and one of the most crucial elements in the planning is knowing how many guests need to be accommodated.

RSVP is an abbreviation for the French phrase “repondez s’il vous plait" which translates literally as “respond if you please” or, more idiomatically, as “please respond.”

Unfortunately, too many people take this request literally and only respond if they please. It’s a shame that the French were so polite in their phrasing; they should have been a bit more forceful.
