He said that, in general, he favors the federal government turning over some of its programs to the individual states to administer. ‘‘Any money we send to Washington, we will lose some. I would rather it go to Richmond — we’ve got a better chance to get it back.”
The president of Gilliam Lumber Co., he lives in Warren County with his wife, Kathryn and their two children. Mr. Gilliam has been active in Republican politics since 1964, including working closely with Del. Guest. He is now the chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee.
Malcolm L. “Mac” Trevor also announced his candidacy last week. Mr. Trevor is a former federal employee and diplomat who served in both the Reagan and Nixon administrations.
Under President Reagan he worked in the Office of Management and Budget, while he served as American Consul to Barcelona, Spain, under President Nixon. In the interim, Mr. Trevor was stationed overseas as well as at the Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute in Rosslyn.
Mr. Trevor is presently a business partner with William H. Stanhagen, a former Republican National Committee representative from Virginia, in S and S Investments Inc., which creates general partnerships in real estate, energy and hotel development.
He served six years' active duty as an intelligence officer and navigator in the Air Force, and is now retired from the Air Force Reserve
