The revisions submitted by Dr. Krebser also call for the promotion of tourism as long as tourismoriented development is compatible with the rural and agricultural character of Rappahannock.
In addition, the revisions stipulate that economic growth be allowed only if it is compatible with Rappahannock’s environmental quality and rural character and does not adversely affect active farm operations, forestry operations, residential neighborhoods, the tourist industry and the county’s fiscal stability.
The planning commissioners will review Dr. Krebser’s proposed revisions to the comprehensive plan’s goal and objectives as well as other changes suggested by Mr. McCarthy at their Feb. 15 meeting.
Blossoming medians
Lawmakers have come up w'ith a blooming good idea. Congress has required that a portion of the funds allocated to landscape along federal highways be spent to plant native wildflowers.
According to National Wildlife magazine, wildflowers greatly reduce the need for and expense of mowing and watering, and seem to deter motorists from littering.
