for more than 15 years, lrapezoid has been creating its own style of music joining the finest in folk traditions with the pulse of contemporary music.
Named by the Washington Post “the finest folk group in the country,” Trapezoid will present its 15th Anniversary Concert at the Gay Street Theater in Washington in two performances, Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7 at 8 p.m.
This five-member ensemble has been telling stories with their music and enchanting listeners through its six recordings and 1,600 concerts throughout North America and Asia for many years. Their music succeeds in merging old and new into a musical performance that is pure magic. As noted by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Trapezoid provides “Reassuring evidence. . .that given an unplugged instrument, an unhurried routine and an unbridled imagination, a musician can still breathe new life into old strains of song.”
Trapezoid, now based in Washington, originated in West Virginia as an all male folk quartet. The original members of the group included Paul Reisler, the founder and director of Trapezoid, Sam Rizzetta, Pete Vigour knd Paul Yeaton.
Their first female vocalist, Tina Lisa Jones, joined them after two years thus ushering in the second generation of the group. Personel changes over the years have included such performers as Ralph Gordon and two female vocalists, Freyda Epstein and Lorraine Duisit who performed with Trapezoid for almost ten years.
