year, when Madison gives the last of its annual increases, this difference
ri Madison’s favor increases to 1,128.
However, in the 21st year, for teachers who have completed 20 years of service, Rappahannock offers another step, which again pulls the salary to within $200 of Madison’s.
There is another such step in both salary scales, with Madison offering it as the teacher begins his 25th year, while Rappahannock waits an extra year, like most other counties, until the teacher has 25 years of experience. At that point, and in years following, Madison’s salary is $9 more than Rappahannock’s, enabling Madison to rant 103rd out of 134 counties, while Rappahannock ranks 104th.
Rappahannock compares next most favorably with Page County. The starting salary in Page is $206 more than Rappahannock’s, and Page County teachers stay ahead in their second and third years, but then Rappahannock salaries pull ahead and remain ahead until the 23rd year.
Then, because Page County continues to give annual increases through the 26th year, their teachers more than make up the difference, and Page County ends up ranked 77th in the state for its salary at the top levels of experience.
Warren County’s starting salary is $230 more than Rappahannock’s, but Warren County this year is paying teachers with one, two, three, and four years of experience no more than it pays.beginning teachers.
