Mjyor priorities are the funding of scientific research including th« artificial heart valve, open heart surgery, the pacemaker, cardio-pulmonary resiscutation and the treatment of other diseases of the heart.
Some of our community services programs are: Heart Rx, through which physicians are provided materials that can be used to teach patients about risk reduction; Food Festival, when consumers are made aware of foods low in cholesteral and saturated fats; Save a Sweetheart, which encourages teenagers to not smoke or to stop smoking; community CPR training, working with local organizations to teach CPR to American Heart Association standards and keeping records for instructors.
Special praise is due July Halle and Edna Metzinger, co-captains, Piedmont District, and Roberta Anderson, captain, Stonewall-Hawthome District, for exceeding last year’s contributions, Mr. Heddleston noted.

Maybelle Gilkey, the captain for Wakefield District and Dr. Gil Webb, captain for Jackson District, reported that more than $1,000 was collected from each district.
